Our beginner pottery classes are for those with little to no clay experience who want to learn the proper techniques for creating wheel thrown pottery. Lessons cover wedging, centering, throwing, trimming, and finishing. Focus is on learning to centre the clay and making basic cylinders and bowls – the foundation for making mugs, vases, and other forms. Students will also be introduced to glazing studio and learn basic techniques to get started in the studio. This eight-week course option offers an additional glazing and wheel class to the 6-week course. Completing this course will qualify members to use the clay studio on a drop-in basis where they can refine their skills and work on their own projects. We do suggest purchasing a membership, as it is required to book studio times.
Price includes one bag of clay and a personal clay tool kit. Additional clay is available for purchase at the VCAC front desk.
Note: All participants must be 17 year or older. Students should bring an apron, clear plastic recycling bag and an old towel or pillow case. Please leave rings, watches, and bracelets at home. Long hair should be tied back. Long nails are not recommended.
