The Vernon Community Arts Centre is proud to present "Expressions of 2023", a collection of new works by members of the Arts Council of the North Okanagan. The artwork from Okanagan artists is always diverse and showcases everything from prints and paintings, to clay and glass sculptures, and a variety of mixed media creations. Come on down, check out the show, and support your local arts community. Expressions of 2023 runs June 2nd to July 4th, and is open daily to the public. Hours are Mon-Thurs 9-9, Fri-Sat 9-5, Sun 12-4. In a country as vast as Canada, you'll find that each province, territory, region and community has it's own distinct culture and climate. So what does that mean for life in the Okanagan? We asked local artists to answer that question through art. This exhibit uses a variety of artistic styles and mediums to explore everything from the landscape and wildlife to their favourite pastimes and culinary delights. Okanagan Living runs July 8 to August 1, and is open daily to the public. Hours are Mon-Thurs 9-9, Fri-Sat 9-5, Sun 12-4. Admission is free and donations are accepted should you wish to contribute to future community programming. The Vernon Community Arts Centre is proud to welcome back The Canadian Mental Health Association and the 20th Annual Awakening the Spirit Art Show & Sale, celebrating the creative talents of people living with mental illness. Art has a therapeutic quality that has proven to benefit the mental health of individuals. Artwork on display is from those living with mental illness who have used art to improve their mental health positively. We hope to break down some of the barriers and stigma surrounding mental health and mental illness through art and creativity. Awakening the Spirit runs August 3 to 22nd, and is open daily to the public. Hours are Mon-Thurs 9-9, Fri-Sat 9-5, Sun 12-4. An opening reception will be held Thursday, August 3rd (time TBD). Admission is free and donations are accepted should you wish to contribute to future community programming. We love this exhibit and know you will to! Each year, the Vernon Community Arts Centre showcases the work of emerging artists, ages 5 to 25. As they title indicates, their ideas are always fresh and they often take a different perspective into their art practice and finished pieces. Fresh Perspectives will run daily from August 24 to September 10th, and will also coincide with our 2023 Youth Artist in Residence Exhibit. Come down and support Vernon's young creatives.
