Mark R Lawrenece

Mark has been in the ceramics industry for more than 50 years and it is a big part of his life.  Some call him “the potter’s potter”.  Throwing on the wheel is Mark’s passion.  His goal is to teach the skills that he learned from his mentors and keep the Mingei tradition alive.  Mark is also a professional photographer.


Advanced Diploma in Ceramics 1974 from the Vancouver School of Art, a four year program studying under John Reeve (apprentice of Bernard Leach), Redge Dixon, and Leonard Epp.

Teaching Glaze Chemistry at the Vancouver School of Art for the Continuing Education night school program.

Employed by Estrin Manufacturing for 24 years, designing and building pottery kilns and equipment for the glass and ceramics industry.

Supervisor for 5 years at Interstyle Ceramic Tile and Glass running the Clay Department, extruding, pressing, molding, and research and development working with clay and glass.

Semi-retired now and continuing his passion for clay, giving beginner through advanced pottery throwing workshops throughout BC.
