Born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Keyanna Burgher moved to Vernon, BC in the summer of 2015 following her graduation of the BFA Creative Writing program at UBC Vancouver. Primarily a writer, Keyanna focuses on short story and long form fiction, playwriting, and song writing.
Her play “Through Thick and Thin” was published in the Saskatchewan Drama Association’s 2011 “Magazine of Student Written Plays” and won Best Overall Production at the SDA’s 2010 regional One Act Festival. Her play “Him & Her” also won Best Overall Production at the 2014 SDA’s regional One Act Festival, and was performed in Vancouver’s “Brave New Playrights” festival in the same year. Keyanna has several Best Actor awards from the SDA, as well as many regional and provincial vocal awards from the Saskatchewan Music Festival Association. You can find her most recent album “Blind” on Itunes; all songs are written and performed by Keyanna. Many of Keyanna’s short films have reached national recognition as well, although her decision to focus on prose-writing has pushed filmmaking and screenwriting to the side. When not writing or performing, Keyanna enjoys drawing, graphic design and abstract acrylic painting. As an instructor at the Vernon Community Arts Centre, she looks forward to being exposed to new visual art processes and sharing her knowledge of the arts.
