Sources of Inspiration: Abstract Sculpture in Clay (2024 Workshop)

Level: Intermediate

Instructor: Gale Woodhouse (Click for Bio)

We were thrilled to welcome Gale to the inaugural Vernon Arts Summer School program. Known for her expertise as an instructor, visual artist, and craftsperson, Gale is a beloved figure at VCAC. She brought abundant inspiration, creativity, and patience to this workshop.

Participants worked towards building an abstract sculptural form of their design, following a series of preliminary small-scale explorations investigating this magnificent medium’s infinite textural qualities. They learned the essentials of building clay forms, ceramic construction techniques, traditional modeling, structural design, and mark-making.

Whether they were hand-builders or looking to incorporate throwing skills, the workshop offered something for everyone. Participants gained a strong foundation in three-dimensional form building and explored gesture and expression to bring their sculptures to life. By the end, they created a unique abstract sculptural form of their own design. It was an opportunity to unleash their inner artist.
