We were honoured and delighted to welcome Amelia Butcher from Vancouver for the inaugural year of VASS. She brought a wealth of knowledge and passion, making her ceramics workshop an unforgettable experience!

Students immersed themselves in an exciting ceramic workshop, exploring a variety of surface decoration techniques before glazing. They expanded on forms they were comfortable with, including wheel-thrown, coil, and other hand-built forms. Participants learned to craft their own ceramic watercolours, pastels, pencils, and DIY slip transfers and tried wax inlay drawings and other techniques. They investigated the interaction between 2D designs and 3D forms, explored strategies for composition, and unleashed their creativity by blending drawing and clay work.
