CLAY STUDIO
The clay studio is accessible to students and members, and is equipped with 10 potters wheels & throwing bats, 6 hand-building tables, an extruder, and a slab roller. We also have a separate glaze studio with 2 electric kilns firing to cone 6, a large selection of studio glazes, a spray booth, and more. We have a great recycling program to reduce clay and glaze waste and lessen our environmental footprint. Recycled clay is often used for our Joining Hands Program and is also for sale here at the VCAC.
GLAZING STUDIO
This area is a dedicated space for our students and members to glaze their pottery. We have 2 kilns – a bisque kiln, and a glaze kiln that fires to cone 6. We have a large selection of studio glazes, a spray booth, and on occasion, this studio and a dedicated outdoor area is also used for alternative firings such as horsehair firings and raku.
GLASS STUDIO
Stained glass, fused glass and glass beadmaking classes are held in this studio, and is available to students and qualified members. The glass studio has lots of counter and table space and is equipped with eight glass grinders, eight sets of glass hand tools, a ring saw for cutting those difficult glass shapes and more. We have a large glass kiln and 2 small table top kilns, and plenty of books and patterns for reference and inspiration.
2D ARTS STUDIO
The 2D studio is home used for our 2D drop-in program and is where most of our classes for drawing and painting happen, in addition to youth summer and spring break art camps. The studio has high ceilings, full-spectrum lighting, sky lights, and also features adjustable spot-lighting for use with still-life and live models. Other amenities include easels and tables for use by our students and members. This studio is often used for ACNO Member Group meetings and some of our popular events like Art and Acoustics and Artsolutely.
PRINTMAKING STUDIO
The Printmaking Studio contains two presses. It is located upstairs and lets in lots of beautiful, natural light. Completion of qualifying printmaking classes gives members access to the studio and presses during drop-in sessions. If you have previous printmaking experience and would like to use the studio, contact us to set up an orientation. To find out when the studio is available for drop-in, please contact at 250-542-6243.
P.A. STUDIO
The P.A. Studio is a large open room with lots of natural light. In the past it was heavily used by dance groups and for drama lessons as it is an ideal space for freedom of movement and expression – hence PA for “Performing Arts”. While the name remains, this space is now home to our Joining Hands program as well as numerous painting and drawing classes. At times, you’ll also find our ACNO Member Groups like the Wood Carvers and Wood Turners using this space for their weekly gatherings.
THE BUBBLE ROOM
Located upstairs, our youth studio is a brightly-coloured space designed to help spark creativity in the young artists of tomorrow. Once upon a time the walls were covered in blue and pink bubbles (hence the name) but they have since been replaced by art from our youth classes and inspiring art content.
