” I have always been fascinated by the Physical World….its many textures, shapes and amazing geologicalforms. My interest in light and colour have combined with these to form a lifelong passion for painting the many aspects of the landscape both its structure and vegetation or lack thereof . My travels around the world have provided me with such wonderful opportunities to explore its ever changing face.
While my work has covered many mediums and subjects throughout the years, my love of landscapes has never diminished. My recent works are principally in this area, particularly in developing my interest in structural forms. As an admirer of the Impressionists I have been influenced by their spontaneous brushwork and interpretive vision… particularly Monet and Manet and the colourful canvases of Van Gogh,’
Growing up in Cornwall, England influenced my love of wild and unfettered landscapes..rugged cliffs and lands that had been shaped by the full force of the elements. My art training in England embraced a very traditional approach with hours of drawing and a strong emphasis of basic skills while encouraging creative experimentation,, After graduating from University I emigrated to Canada where I found more inspiration in the strong and dynamic land and seascapes of the West Coast. I am comfortable creating in all mediums and respect the varied characteristics of each.”
