Nancy Vince is a multi-media artist, residing in Coldstream B.C. Her Happy Art has been described as whimsical art, zen art, and folk art.
My first artistic endeavour took place in my Maple Ridge garden. After building our home in the country I created an award winning garden that has been featured in the Vancouver Sun, on HGTV, and in the magazines “Gardens West” and “Canadian Gardening”. I was very involved with the Maple Ridge Garden Club and when we decided to move and retire to the Okanagan, the garden club asked if I planned on creating another garden. I told them my retirement dream was to learn how to draw and paint so as a going away gift the club gave me a complete art set.
After arriving in Vernon life got in the way and the art set ended up in the closet for almost 5 years. In 2011 I became a caregiver to my mom. After having her in our home I knew it was time to finally take that art set out of the closet. During the summer of 2012 I started to attend a drop in art class at Nadine’s Fine Arts. I created my first piece and have never looked back. I work with acrylics but have also recently taken up drawing colourful whimsical illustrations which I turn into cards and prints. Art has been incredibly rewarding and I am able to lose myself in the process of creating more times than I can remember. It is my safe place and my escape.
