A Gathering of Artists - Monthly Series
Level: All Levels Welcome
“A Gathering of Artists” is a monthly professional development and peer support program for all levels of artists. Facilitated by varying instructors and artists, each month’s session will focus on a new topic. Our intention is to provide artists with an opportunity to gather in a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere to learn and benefit from one another’s lived experiences and expertise. Some workshops will be project based while others will focus on more of a sharing environment, with sessions being offered on the first Friday of each month. Workshop costs for members will vary between $15 and $45 depending on the facilitator, type of workshop and materials. A glass of wine (or other beverage) and light snacks will be included in the price. Stay tuned to find out upcoming session topics.
If you are interested in facilitating a session or have ideas on what topics you would like to see offered, please contact Gale Woodhouse at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Peer Art Critique
with Gale Woodhouse
Come and join us for a casual evening of wine, light snacks, and a peer art critique.
Critique, in many ways, is crucial for artistic development. In this session we encourage artists to bring in work for a group critique. Bring along a piece of artwork that you may be struggling with or that you would appreciate some feedback on. Or just come along and learn from the journey of other artists.
The group will provide positive feedback and support and be the second (or third) “set of eyes” on the work. Artists can ask for feedback on how the work can be improved, and in that process will develop an understanding of how the work is perceived by others. During the discussion, artists are encouraged to talk openly and freely about the origin and technical aspects of the work presented and about their personal views and aims.
Peer critique should be specific and constructive and support artistic growth. It is important for us to experience critiques of our own work, but it’s also important to critique the work of others. When we critique the work of others, we not only offer helpful suggestions but we also learn to find things that can be applied to our own work. We see how other artists solve problems and may wish to adapt their solutions or methodologies to our own work.
This is a great learning opportunity – no need to be intimidated, you are among friends.

Social Media for Artists
with Sheri Kunzli
As part of our “Gathering of Artists Series”, we’re bringing you a professional development opportunity to help you promote your art. Artists often take on all the roles of a small business owner, including marketing and promotions, however, most artists prefer to focus on being the maker, not the marketer. In this workshop, Sheri will offer some tips and tricks on how to navigate the worlds of Facebook and Instagram to boost your marketing strategy and increase your social reach without using costly ads. This workshop will allow for some hands-on practice so participants are encouraged to bring along their smart phones, tablets and laptops. There will be lots of time for troubleshooting, questions and answers, and opportunities for people to share their own experiences and expertise. Since this is all about promotions, Sheri also suggests you bring along your business cards and use this opportunity to network with other artists. Price includes your beverage of choice and some light snacks.
