This class is for those looking to learn the basics of working on the wheel. During your eight weeks you will learn the steps that go into creating finished pieces like mugs, vases, and bowls. Weekly demonstrations will keep you motivated and be sure to bring your sense of humor. Fee includes 8 free drop-in sessions to be used by the end of the course. Students should leave all rings, watches, bracelets etc. at home and wear clothing appropriate to getting muddy.



In this course you will learn a bit about the copper foil method of stained glass while making a beautiful stained glass feather.



Have fun learning to play the electric keyboard during these one hour long, individual lessons. Quickly learn how to play melody with accompanying rhythm and chords together, while learning to choose and operate the features of the keyboard. Beginners or anyone interested in improving their skill is welcome. You will be surprised how easy and fun it is to play music on the electric keyboard! Sheet music is included in the class cost.



Pop, rock, country or blues, easy step by step instruction will have you playing your favorite songs in no time. Learn to read music and strum chords during these ½ hour long private lessons. Students are to bring their own guitar.



Tuesdays, May 16 to June 13 6:00pm – 9:00pm || Learn the core elements of drawing and develop the tools to make beautiful and interesting drawings. Working with pen, pencil, and charcoal, participants will explore a range of styles and approaches. Get the fundamentals down and use them to draw from life and photo references. This class is suitable for adult beginners and early intermediates that want to learn or improve their drawing skills.



Thursdays, May 25 & June 1 1:15pm – 4:15pm || During this workshop create paintings in acrylics on canvas. Paintings can be bright and bold or soft and misty depending on your taste.



Saturday & Sunday, May 27 & 28 9:30am – 4:00pm || This beginner’s level workshop introduces the art and science of glass beadmaking. Using a bead maker’s torch & rods of Italian glass, students will learn basic bead shapes, decorating techniques, use of hand tools, glass theory and safety. Students will go home with many glass beads they have made.



Saturday, May 27 9:30am – 1:30pm || This hands-on class will introduce the concepts and techniques central to the practice of printmaking. Students will learn how to properly use different presses along with safety precautions one should take when creating within the studio. Students will also explore introductory methods and approached for making prints while making a CD prints and lino stamps. Completion of this class will qualify students to use the printmaking studio and presses during drop in sessions.



Saturday, June 3 10:00am – 3:30pm || In this course you will learn the basics of stained glass, cutting, grinding, fitting, and soldering, while making up to three projects. The projects to choose from are a dragonfly, feather, and butterfly.



Mondays, June 5 to 26 6:00pm – 9:00pm || A class for beginners and those wanting to become proficient on the wheel; this class will explore many functional forms as well as teach the basics that go into creating finished pieces. We will focus on individual challenges as you throw and hand build various forms. Fees include 6 free drop in sessions for the duration of the class. Please leave rings, watches and bracelets at home, wear clothing and footwear appropriate for a clay class. Hair should be tied back. Students should bring one large clear plastic recycling bag, apron, texturing tools and sticky notes. The materials fee is for 1 bag of M340 clay. Additional clay is available for purchase at the VCAC front desk.

Saturday, June 10 9:30am – 4:00pm || In this fun and informative beginner’s class, we will explore the basics of kiln fusing. Learn how to cut, grind, layer and fit glass as well as explore the medium using sheet glass, frits, stringers and noodles in your projects. Students may choose from molds at the Arts Centre or choose to make wall hanging pieces. No previous glass experience necessary. Students will return at a later date to pick up their fused pieces.



Saturday, June 10 9:30am – 12:30pm || Let the sun help you to create artwork! In this hands-on workshop come and learn how to create solar prints. All ages can participate and create together. Participants will create cyanotypes on paper with their own design using a variety of found objects. The images created will vary depending on the time of exposure and the objects used. If you have a favorite leaf, feather or other relatively flat object you can bring it with you to incorporate into your design. All other supplies will be provided for you. We will be using pre-treated paper so no chemicals will be involved. Each person will create two cyanotypes to take home.



Saturday, June 10 9:30am – 3:00pm || During this class students are introduced to various traditional and experimental relief printing techniques. Both hand printing and mechanical press methods will be used to produce editioned works. Completion of this class will qualify students to use the printmaking studio and presses during drop in sessions.



Wednesdays, June 14 to 28 1:00pm – 3:00pm || Join Nancy Vince and create happy doodle art. In this class she will show the progression of creating a piece from the pencil sketch to the finished artwork. Begin by creating your ideas in pencil, and then use a pen to work in the details and lastly add color to the art piece you create.



Thursdays, June 15 to 29 1:15pm – 4:15pm || For most of us, drawing is an acquired skill which is improved with a better understanding of proportions, perspective and anatomy. Course includes easy to follow instructions to build a strong foundation.



Thursdays, June 15 to 29 6:00pm – 9:00pm || During this three evening class students are introduced to a variety of printing processes such as multi-layer lino, mono printing and found objects print. Students will learn the fundamental techniques of producing monochromatic and multi-colour prints. Completion of this class will qualify students to use the printmaking studio and presses during drop-in sessions. Please bring in soft pliable found objects such as scrapes of textured paper or fabric, packaging or clean food wrappers, foliage.



Saturdays, June 17 to 24 10:00am – 4:00pm || This class is designed to introduce you to a technique other than the copper foil method and teaches you the basics of working with lead channel. Using a design chosen by the instructor, students will learn to how to construct a stained glass panel using lead came. Basic glass cutting, pattern preparation, reinforcing and finishing will also be covered.



Tuesdays, June 20 to August 15 (no class July 11) 9:30am – 12:30pm || This class is for those looking to learn the basics of working on the wheel. Saturdays, June 24 (9:30am – 3:00pm) & July 8 (9:30am – 11:30am) || During day one of this workshop students will use slabs of clay to create a unique Old Work Boot for an outdoor garden flowerpot. Students will return on day two to glaze their planters Students should bring an apron, 1 old bath towel and texturing tools if you have them. The materials fee is for 1 bag of F95 clay.

Wednesdays, July 5 to August 9 5:30pm – 9:00pm || Students will learn a variety of techniques which will include the use of molds, extruder and slab roller to create functional pieces of pottery. Using slab clay construction the projects will be: set of nesting push plates, mug, creamer, sugar bowl and teapot. Students will explore shape, texture, different decoration techniques and glazing finishes. Students should bring one large clear plastic recycling bag, apron, old bath towel, texture tools and clay tools if you have them. The materials fee is for 1 bag of M340 clay. Additional clay is available for purchase at the VCAC front desk.

Throughout the duration of the course, students will learn an overview of how to use acrylic paints as well as a variety of methods and subjects to apply it to. Tuesday, August 8 1:00pm – 3:00pm || Ever wonder about where colours and dyes come from? Well one of the ways is from flowers! In this class we will go through the process of making our own dyes and creating a beautiful painting with them.



Thursday, August 10 9:00am – 12:00pm || The primary focus of this course is to eliminate the fear of drawing a live model and to enjoy the process using the creative energy that comes from the model. Session includes tips to train the eye to see the form, pose, structure, proportions and the importance of using non dominant hand for dynamic lines.



Saturdays, August 12 & 19 1:00pm – 4:00pm || Join Nancy Vince and create happy doodle art. In this class she will show the progression of creating a piece from the pencil sketch to the finished artwork. Begin by creating your ideas in pencil and then use a pen to work in the details and lastly add color to the art piece you create. She will demonstrate some of the Copic Marker shading techniques and products she uses to create her artwork in addition to showing what you can do with the art you create.



Thursdays, August 17 to 31 9:00am – 12:00pm || Creating abstract compositions of people using acrylics is the major focus of this course. Course includes instruction in simplifying figures to achieve the desired results.



Monday – Friday, August 21 to 25 10:00am – 4:00pm || In this beginner’s workshop, we will explore kiln fusing in this intensive and informative 5 day class. Learn how to cut, grind and fit glass as well as explore the medium using frits, stringers, high temperature paints, dichroic paper as well as frit in your projects. Students may choose from molds at the centre or choose to make wall hanging pieces.



Monday – Friday, August 28 to September 1 10:00am – 4:00pm || This intensive one week beginner’s level workshop introduces the art and science of glass beadmaking. Using a bead maker’s torch and rods of Italian glass, students will learn basic bead shapes, decorating techniques, use of hand tools, glass theory and safety. More advanced techniques will be explored as interest and skill level allows. Students will go home with many, many glass beads they have made.
