Summer Art Camp Instructor</span/strong>

The Vernon Community Arts Centre and the Arts Council of the North Okanagan is currently accepting applications for the position of Summer Art Camp Instructor.  The Instructor is responsible for implementing and instructing all activities and projects for eight week-long Summer Fine Art Camps for children age 5-14.

Responsibilities

  • assisting Program Coordinator in compiling a list of materials needed for each week of camp
  • organize set-up and clean-up of daily activities
  • instruction and coordination of daily activities of the summer arts team
  • supervising camp participants
  • plan the end of camp student art show on Friday afternoons
  • interacting with parents/guardians
  • organizing equipment and material for each of the 7 week long art camps
  • purchasing additional supplies as needed when approved by the Manager
  • ensure the safety of students while in the building and out in the park
  • clean up between projects and at the end of each day
  • report any concerns or incidents to the Manager
  • work with the Program Coordinator to prepare relevant Summer Camp documentation
  • work with the Program Coordinator to complete the final report and program evaluation
  • clean up at end of camp

The position should comply with the guidelines set out by Canada Summer Jobs which states the candidate is:

  • between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive)at the start of employment
  • a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act* and
  • legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations;

*International students are not eligible.  Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Front Desk Administrator 

We are seeking a full time Front Desk Administrator to join our creative team at the Vernon Community Arts Centre.  The ideal candidate will have a friendly and easy going personality while also being very perceptive and disciplined. You should have a detail orientated approach to your work with the ability to respond to flexible work situations. A customer-oriented approach is essential. The position reports to the Manager and Marketing and Program Coordinator. Full time – 35 hours per week

Responsibilities:

  • General office duties, including answering phones, taking accurate messages, photocopying, answering questions and managing concerns
  • Process registrations, enrollments and refunds as required
  • Assist with cash out as required
  • Maintain accurate information records for monthly data analysis
  • Maintain VCAC databases including membership, library and registration databases
  • Coordinate volunteers and maintain volunteer database
  • Assist Marketing & Program Coordinator with updating social media postings
  • Assist Marketing & Program Coordinator with uploading information to website
  • Maintain VCAC Art Shop and Centre Gallery records including submission, removal and sales
  • Notify registered students if a class is cancelled
  • Maintain and update class interest list
  • Update clay and glass studio drop in hours
  • Operate a variety of office machines including photocopier, cash register, debit machine, computer and audio visual equipment
  • Maintain the VCAC art collection records
  • If requested by the Manager, assist with the hanging and display of artwork
  • Assist Manager and Marketing & Program Coordinator as needed
  • Assist with events and fundraisers as needed
  • Other duties as required
  • Attend monthly staff meetings and take detailed minutes

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as front desk representative, agent or relevant position
  • Knowledge of office management systems and procedures
  • Proven skills in data entry, with accuracy a priority
  • Proficient in English (oral and written)
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word and Publisher)
  • Experience with Photoshop and InDesign would be an asset
  • Knowledge of WordPress is an asset
  • Strong communication and people skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Customer service orientation
  • High School diploma must; additional qualifications will be a plus
  • Marketing and or sales experience considered an asset
  • Managing social media posting
  • Volunteer coordination
  • Knowledge of art supplies, tools, equipment, processes an asset
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven record of working with a team

Evening Receptionist 

We are seeking an Evening Receptionist to join our creative team at the Vernon Community Arts Centre.  The ideal candidate will have a friendly and easy going personality while also being very perceptive and disciplined. You should have a detail orientated approach to your work with the ability to respond to flexible work situations. A customer-oriented approach is essential. The position reports to the Arts Centre Manager.  Permanent Part Time – 20 to 28 hours per week per week

Responsibilities

  • Greet and welcome visitors to Vernon Community Arts Centre
  • General office duties, including answering phones, taking accurate messages, photocopying, maintaining front entrance and coffee area
  • Process registrations, enrollments and refunds as required
  • Cash out and balance daily sales at the end of each shift
  • Operate a variety of office machines including photocopier, cash register, debit machine, computer and audio visual equipment
  • General clerical duties and database entry as required
  • Assist instructors and member groups with set up
  • Assist with events and fundraisers as needed
  • Other duties as required

Requirements

  • Proficient in English (oral and written)
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office (especially Excel and Word)

YOUTH ARTIST IN RESIDENCE OPPORTUNITIES

Each year, the Arts Council of the North Okanagan (ACNO) awards 1 – 2 students a residency at the Vernon Community Arts Centre.  The Youth Artist in Residence (YAR) program is open to all aspiring artists ages 16-18 living within School District 22.  The selected artist(s) are provided a dedicated studio space at the Vernon Community Arts Centre, have access to administrative and artistic support, access to facilities and equipment during open hours, an honorarium to purchase materials and supplies, and a solo* art exhibition/show.
